Veolia STEP – AVEVA unified operator center in industrial energy management
Suomen Teollisuuden Energiapalvelut STEP Oy (Veolia Group) produces sustainable energy solutions for industrial customers in accordance with partnership principles. The company monitors and optimizes energy production from Aveva Wonderware UOC central control rooms located in Harjavalta and Koskenkorva.
Aveva Wonderware is the world's most widely used automation control room software that combines automation equipment from different suppliers into one remotely managed entity and enables cost-effective digital processes and solutions in companies.
Klinkmann has delivered Wonderware solutions to several hundred production sites in Finland and internationally. Klinkmann's extensive partner network implements Wonderware digital projects in various industries. The platform for the new Aveva UOC control room solution is the much-used Wonderware System Platform.
Remote monitoring and reporting flexibly from different automation devices
Insta Automation Oy has implemented several control room and production control systems using the Wonderware System Platform (UOC) and Wonderware InTouch software platforms. Customers include both industrial and public administration institutions.
"The software can be connected to a wide range of automation devices from different manufacturers. The application environment takes care of connections, user interfaces and data collection, says Jarkko Järvilehto, Director at Insta Automation Oy.
Klinkmann also supports Insta Automation by actively providing information about software and its updates as well as new solutions.
"For example, in the offer phase, we discuss what would be the best solution for the customer or when the software would be best updated. We also wonder whether the system is so critical that it should be duplicated. If this is the case, should it be done already at the plant level or at a higher level, Järvilehto continues.
Remote monitoring and optimization
Suomen Teollisuuden Energiapalvelut STEP Oy (Veolia Group) produces sustainable energy solutions for industrial customers in accordance with partnership principles. The company monitors and optimizes energy production from Aveva Wonderware UOC central control rooms located in Harjavalta and Koskenkorva.
In addition to the companies in the Harjavalta Industrial Park, STEP's customers include Altia's Koskenkorva factory, Hankkija's feed factory in Seinäjoki and Findest Protein in Kaustinen, which recycles animal-based raw materials. The plants are several hundred kilometres from Harjavalta.
Each plant has a local unmanned lower control room, and if communications to the central control room were to be interrupted for any reason, the plant can be controlled on site. When the connection is restored, data to the central control room flows again.
In addition to the central control room, notifications of disturbances at the energy plant are transmitted to the on-call supervisor's mobile device, such as a tablet. Thanks to good analytics, disturbances can often be resolved remotely, without going to the plant.
The production use of the STEP system started already in 2013. Since then, we have maintained and expanded the system, for example, by increasing the data collection of existing plants and, if necessary, adding new customer sites to it. The work is facilitated by the Wonderware UOC solution's System Platform platform, which is flexible to use and easy to extend.
"The software can be connected to a wide range of automation devices from different manufacturers. The application environment takes care of connections, user interfaces and data collection.
